New Screen Decks for RMC Marine, Southampton
New Screen Decks for RMC Marine, Southampton
Tuesday, 11th January 2005

Finedoor have recently completed a project to replace two screens for RMC Marine at their Leamouth Wharf site at Southampton.

The contract required for the removal of two existing screens and to supply two new bespoke retrofit screens into a refurbished existing support structure. Finedoor supplied a 7m x 2.4m – 2 deck and a 4m x 1.8m -2 deck screen complete with an SCS modular system and grease lubrication. Due to the location of the site both the new screens were supplied with a wear resistant bonding to all wearing surfaces. Finedoor also supplied complete new drives which were powered by 22kw and 15kw motors respectively.

Both screens were designed and manufactured within Finedoor’s workshop where the actual operation of each unit was fully tested and ‘dry run’ before transportation to site. The screens were successfully interfaced by Finedoor engineers into the production system within the existing main screen building in the specified time of eight days.

The RMC Marine plant at Lea Mouth Wharf has been operational since 1955 with RMC controlling the operation since 1972. The site processes approximately 200,000 tonnes of marine (sea dredged) aggregates per annum with planned improvements in throughput to 300,000 tonnes per annum.
Their prime customer is the on-site RMC concrete plant which takes approximately 40% of the production, a further 20% going to nearby concrete plants with the remainder supplying local building works.

RMC Marine were so please with Finedoor’s product and approach to the job that they intend installing similiar equipment elsewhere. Peter Sheehy – Wharf Manager commented, “It wasn’t a straightforward job, but I was very impressed with the manner in which the Finedoor management and engineers paid attention to every detail of the project.”
