Finedoor Finger Screen puts production on track at Warmwell Quarry.

In an effort to improve production even further Warmwell Quarry has recently installed a heavy-duty finger screen into their processing plant. Replacing a Niagara E10 13' x 5' single deck screen the new 2-deck screen was supplied by leading screen specialists Finedoor of Morley.

Owned and operated by Bardon Aggregates, Warmwell quarry is situated near Doncaster. Originally worked as several sand and gravel sites, today the material being processed at Warmwell is fine sand accompanied by a clay residue.

Currently the site operates a wash plant that supplies washed sand to an on-site bagging plant. As clay was something of an issue within the production of this material the decision to replace the old screen was made with a view to improve the general process whilst simultaneously improving the quality of the end product.

After a short consultation process Finedoor supplied a 4m x 1.5m - two deck screen with a heavy-duty finger deck assembly. Designed to fit into the existing structure the top deck utilises 800mm long tines pitched at 50mm centres providing a 40mm aperture. In contrast the lower deck side is of tensioned woven wire slotted mesh with a 25mm x 50mm aperture to the bottom deck.

Driven by an 11kW TEFC squirrel cage motor the heavy-duty screen is constructed of 10mm thick side plates and is of two bearing construction with grease lubrication. The specification also included balance weight guards, helical steel coil springs to isolate vibration and feed and discharge trays.

Installation was completed over a short shutdown period and full production was attained within the desired window.
