Logistical Problems Solved At Woodhall Spa
Finedoor have recently completed the supply and installation of equipment in a major project at Kirby-on-Bain Quarry, Lincolnshire. The quarry situated near Horncastle, Lincolnshire is owned and operated by Woodhall Spa Sand and Gravel Company who supply materials across the local market, and into Yorkshire and Cheshire.
Originally the company were processing clay-contaminated material through an existing Parker washing barrel complete with screen, which was supplied by a belt feeder.
Finedoor acting as main contractor for the project provided a complete replacement for the sand processing system and increased the operating capacity of the plant from 125 tph to 175 tph, with an additional capability of increasing to 200 tph as and when required. Finedoor designed and supplied their own equipment including the main structure platform for the Wileman scrubber barrel and primary screen; this was then integrated with the existing final grading structure which was refurbished by WSG.
Finedoor supplied a 40 tonne capacity belt feed hopper, with variable speed belt feeder and support structure which discharges onto a feed belt 750mm wide x 35m complete with walkway one side, this conveyor feeds onto the primary rinsing screen 5 x 1.5m, two deck, fitted with high-pressure water spray bars, grease lubricated bearings and SCS polyurethane modules. This provides a material split of clay, sand and gravel, -150/+40, which is sent to a ground stockpile, -40/+15, which is sent to a Wileman Contraflow scrubber barrel and -5 which feeds into a Linatex sand system. The -40 having passed through the scrubber barrel discharges onto a 1000mm wide x 15m long transfer conveyor which feeds the second Finedoor screen, 5 x 1.5m two deck, also fitted with spray bars and polyurethane modules, the products are then graded into -40/+20mm/,-20/+10mm, -10/+5mm.
All chutes were rubber lined, and all the conveyors were heavy duty in accordance with the Finedoor generic specification.
Finedoor supplied all the electrical control systems for the whole plant which were housed in a 20`00`` container. The whole project was completed and commissioned to schedule.
Peter Grey, Site Manager, said `The incorporation of replacement and existing second-hand plant was a logistical nightmare. Finedoor were chosen as main contractors because of their ability to be flexible and proactive in problem solving.`
